What Groupdle collects
- Your account. The email address you sign up with, or your Google account’s email address, name and profile picture when you continue with Google; the display name and picture you set in Settings (pictures are stored in an AWS S3 bucket). They identify you to your friends on a leaderboard. No password is stored by Groupdle: sign-in is handled by AWS Cognito, with Google when you choose it.
- The results you submit — the share text a game produces (for example “Wordle 1,283 4/6” and its tile rows) and what we read out of it: the date, whether you solved it, your guesses, mistakes, time or hints. The browser extension submits the same text automatically: on a supported game’s site it reads the text when you press the game’s own Share button, or the finished game the page already keeps in your browser, and sends only that result to Groupdle. You can also paste a share text by hand.
- Your groups: which groups you belong to and own.
- The extension’s session. When you connect the extension on Groupdle’s site, it keeps your sign-in tokens, the games you chose to log and the puzzles it already sent in the extension’s own browser storage, never on the game sites.
What it does not collect
- The puzzles themselves, your answers, or anything else about how you play.
- Your browsing. The extension runs only on the sites of the games Groupdle supports and on Groupdle’s own connect page. There it reads a game’s share text or finished-game state and nothing else: not other text you copy, not the pages you visit, not other sites. It never changes the page.
- Cookies. This website sets none. Its public pages count visits with PostHog in cookieless mode: no cookie, no local storage, and no identifier that follows you — the count relies on a privacy-preserving hash computed on PostHog’s servers from a daily salt that is deleted once the day is processed. The app and the extension send nothing to analytics. The one thing the site keeps in your browser is whether you dismissed its notice bar (localStorage).
Who sees what
Members of a group see each other’s display name, picture and results for that group’s games. Nobody sees your email address except you. Nothing is sold or shared with third parties; the data lives on servers hosted by Railway (API and database) and AWS (sign-in with Cognito, pictures in S3), in the United States, and anonymous page-view counts are processed by PostHog.
Keeping and deleting it
Results are kept so leaderboards can look back over a week, a month or a season. Leave a group at any time, or delete your whole account from Settings — that removes your results, your memberships, your picture and the sign-in identity immediately. The one thing that stays is a finished season’s standings, which keep the display name and picture you had when it closed.
